The Journey
of Light.

Every photograph is the end of a journey that began ninety-three million miles away. Follow one beam — from the sun, across the world, through the machine, into a picture.

▼ SCROLL TO BEGIN
01 · Light

It begins with the sun.

Eight minutes ago these photons left a star. Everything photography does — every dial, every number — is just negotiating how many of them you keep.

02 · Spectrum

Seven colors, one beam.

Inside every white beam ride all the colors our eyes can see — the visible spectrum. A prism doesn't add them; it only unfolds them. Red bends least, violet bends most, and the rainbow was always there.

03 · The World

Light falls on the world.

The same valley is ordinary at noon and unforgettable at golden hour — low, warm light dragging long shadows across the land. Photography is choosing when to be there.

04 · The Camera

The machine that catches it.

Every camera ever built — from a wooden box to the one in your pocket — is the same four ideas in a shell. Take it apart and see.

05 · Aperture

A hole with opinions.

A ring of blades decides how much light may pass. Open, it melts backgrounds to bokeh. Closed, it sharpens the world front-to-back. Each stop halves the light.

06 · Shutter

A curtain against time.

Two curtains chase each other across the frame — the gap between them is your slice of time. Thin enough to freeze a wingbeat, wide enough to melt a waterfall.

07 · Sensor

Photons become pixels.

Millions of photosites — red, green, blue buckets — count the light the other parts allowed through. ISO doesn't catch more; it only turns up the volume.

A photograph is captured light.

You just followed the whole journey. Now learn to command it.
